Last couple weeks, I have a lab member who is obviously burn out from work. I keep telling her to take a break, work from home. She is just worried that she will have a bad review if she are not in the lab. Most PI have no clue about if their scientists are burned out. It is particularly important for PI to notice burn out since a burn out scientist cannot be innovative. So, here are 6 ways that I use to grade people’s burnt out index:

  • Emotional and moody.
  • Getting sick often.
  • Not interested in having fun with other lab members.
  • Being negative and Increasingly Pessimistic Outlook
  • Inefficiency at Work
